We built a playground!
Mercy Mountain Playground
Why build such a huge playground?
In the middle of the Covid pandemic in 2020 we prayed and asked God for help in getting some playground equipment purchased for Mercy Home and Mercy Christian Academy because we really had nothing and we had very limited space. As kids will do, they made the best of a not so great situation. They played with each other inside the small compound with whatever ball they had making up games and digging in the dirt. Having such a small space and so many kids made it impossible for us to have a nice yard. Due to so many feet running around and no grass growing it was such a chore to keep the inside of Mercy Home clean. We prayed and decided that rather than buying a commercial playground system, we would just build a huge, heavy duty playground from scratch! David wanted to put his skills in use and come over for a couple of weeks and get this project built, so he and the Bys Family spent months planning and letting the creative juices flow while doing a huge fundraiser! It was scary asking for so much money to buy land and build this playground. We didn’t know how much people would understand this very important need, but God was truly in it and many people jumped in to help. David came with one of his sons, Spencer, in early December 2020 and with the help of many we got it built, by the grace of God! It was a full and busy two weeks, but this playground has been such a blessing to many!
Now everything we do we do for the love of God and our calling to make disciples of Christ. While this was a huge need for our campus, we also saw it as a way to draw in others. On Sundays we wanted to encourage many families and children to come and play who otherwise would not come to church and hear the Gospel preaching. By God’s grace this opened up the door to for hundreds more to come to Mercy Baptist Church where we feed them the Word of God, provide a meal, and let them enjoy the playground. Many more adults and children now attend weekly, hearing the Gospel and learning the Bible. We are trusting that God is growing the many seeds that we are planting. Pray with us for these lives to be changed forever for Jesus.
Thank you to all who prayed and gave to make this amazing playground happen. To God be the Glory!
Now that we have had the playground for a while we can say that this playground has been a huge blessing to us at Mercy Ministries and to those who come on Sunday. Our kids now have have so much more space to spread out and play. This playground is in use daily for PE and any time there is free time for the kids. We have been able to beautify more of our campus, grow grass, and make our home more homelike. Our children are so happy and blessed and we rejoice in all the JOY the playground created. We cannot stop thanking the Lord for all He has done for us. Below are a couple of our galleries of the greatest Christmas present ever to our kids and the construction photos we took during the building process.
