Mercy Ministries-AFM Africa currently has an all volunteer staff. We are a relatively small non-profit ministry trying to do the most for the Lord with the resources God has given us. Jeff, Stephanie and family are living full time in Kenya operating Mercy Ministries day to day work. Typically our overhead is as low, usually under 5% of total giving, as we work hard to ensure the most good can be done with gifts entrusted to us for this Lord’s work. Below are some brief bio's of our staff and board. 

Jeff Bys - Mercy Ministries President - Missionary - Director of Mercy Ministries-AFM Africa and Board Co-Chairman

Stephanie Bys - Missionary - Co-Director of Mercy Children's Home and Co-Director of Mercy Christian Academy - Board Member

Jeff and Stephanie Bys have been married for 19 years and they have 10 children and 1 Granddaughter. They are originally from the Dallas/Ft Worth Metroplex. Jeff and Stephanie are now full time missionaries, serving with their 7 youngest children in rural Western Kenya. They are overseeing Mercy Ministries-AFM Africa and the various ministries that fall under that. Jeff and Steph have big hearts for orphans and fully believe that God led them to take His call for them in Africa.

Jeff Bys – President, Director of African Missions and Board Co-Chairman, Co-Director of Mercy Children's Home, Co-Director of Mercy Christian Academy, Pastor/Elder of Mercy Baptist Church-Kaya

Prior to being a missionary Jeff was a district manager of restaurants for 18 years. He is gifted in pastoring the people of God. He has been a leader in churches where he has served in children’s ministry, youth ministry, and as a lay preaching pastor. He led a small church in the Dallas, TX area for a time and is firmly grounded in Biblical reformed theology. Jeff is currently enrolled at Covenant Baptist Theological Seminary where he is in the Bachelor of Divinity program. One of Jeff's main focuses in Kenya is teaching the Gospel and training and teaching pastors.

Stephanie Bys – Co-Director of Mercy Children's Home, Co-Director of Mercy Christian Academy

Before Stephanie was a missionary she was a full-time, homeschooling Mom. As a child Stephanie always dreamed of being a Mom. However, she never dreamed God would bless her with so many to love. Over the years Steph served alongside Jeff in children's ministry and youth ministry. Steph's main focus in Kenya is anything to do with children; the children that live inside her home and those outside. Steph's prayer is that God would continue to change her heart to be more like His, and in doing so that would influence others in the way children are to be loved and cared for. She has a passion for God and to see other women likewise give their lives serving Christ and others through biblically sound living.

Kenneth Henrichs- Bookkeeping, Finance - Board Member

Kenneth came on staff with AFM to be a general assistant for David, due to the demands of the growing ministry workload. We also are training Kenneth to fully back-up David in every way so that in the event that David is incapacitated, there will be a smooth continuation of operations with the ministry. Many cannot fathom all the work that must necessarily happen to manage a non-profit business that is nearing half a million in donations each year with all its various needs to make it all happen. While Jeff and Stephanie, Caitie and Karson burn the candle at both ends to run Mercy Ministries-AFM Africa works in Kenya, we must work hard to make sure the the donations, processing and back end business is not something that must also burden them. Kenneth is a devoted follower of Christ and has known David and the Bys family for many years. He and his wife Shanda have been one of the Bys’s strongest supporters since their leaving for Kenya. In 2020 Kenneth came to us asking to be involved even more and we were more than happy to have him to join us and help grow this work more gracefully. His knowledge of digital technologies and steadfast proven reliability to give of his life for the LORD without complaint is exactly what we have been praying for God to bring to us!
