We need your shoes at Mercy Ministries-AFM Africa
Our children and students are in need of good athletic shoes! New or used shoes are completely fine with us, we can even get new shoe strings if needed so please don't let that stop you from donating shoes you have laying around the house.
Finding quality shoes in Kenya has proven to be very difficult. I can get flip-flops and croc style shoes locally, but they don't hold up and they aren't ideal for playing in. We've decided that bringing shoes over via mission trips and shipping them via ocean is what is best for us to do.
We need all sizes from small children's to adult sizes. Our teens have big and wide feet so adult shoes are very much needed.
We have found athletic shoes to be the most flexible for any outfit and any activity; home, school, church, playing football, and playing on the playground. We definitely don't have the luxury of having multiple pairs of shoes per child so athletic shoes are the best option and will help keep bugs like jiggers (sand fleas) out of the children's feet.
This would make a great team project, if you have kids in sports. Many athletic shoes aren't actually worn out when they are replaced for the next sport or season. **We are also collecting Lego blocks both the small and large type to fill in the shoes. this will utilize the shipping space better and also benefit our kids with some new toy options to play with! If you want to send some Legos with your shoes or just Legos that would be great! Loose Legos both used and new are great!**
If you are not local to Missouri and would like to ship shoes to us please email info@mercyminstries.ngo and we will help you figure out the cheapest way to ship them. Lately we have been shipping things (in the states) by bus and it is exponentially cheaper than USPS or other similar services.
It typically costs us about $300 per wardrobe box to ship by ocean to the Mercy Ministries campus and takes about 3 months to arrive. In addition to donating shoes if you would like to help with our shipping costs, that would be so appreciated, the estimate is about $2 to $3 a pair in shipping. You can visit our regular giving page and after submitting your donation amount the next page will give you an option for notes. Simply type in ‘shoe shipping’.
Special note: If you want to get donation credit for your shipping costs of shoes or Legos to us, please email us a copy of your shipping receipt to info@mercyministries.ngo along with your name and phone# and we will create you a tax deductible receipt for that amount, or likewise if you purchase and donate new item you can send those receipts for tax receipts to the same email address.
