3 kg of limes,  (6lbs)

1 kg of omena (dried minnows), (2.2lbs)

Moses Simiyu said.. Haha haha. That is wonderful . So Barasa is making a lorry out of a motorcycle? That is a real Kenyan. Trying to make the impossibility possible.

Kepha, is wondering if he will make it back to Mercy Home with all this stuff. He did, but he had to drop the load and reload it due to it leaning.

Eventually these bananas will turn yellow and we can eat them. For the big bunch on top we paid $3.50.

May I ask what kind of meals you cook and prepare?

It just amazes me.
Like here it’s so easy to just buy boxed meals, frozen meals etc. did you have to relearn how to cook from scratch and new meals etc.

I have never really even bought limes or obviously minnows and other things that you buy over there...

I mostly don’t cook. Cooking over an open fire scares me...I just feel like I’m going to catch on fire 🔥🔥🔥

For breakfast we do porridge (millet flour, milk and sugar), fruit and peanut butter sandwich. The kids who go to school just eat porridge and fruit and then around 10am they have mandazi (donut without icing) and a banana delivered to them. On Saturday’s we have omelettes and use about 180 eggs 😁. We usually eat ugali (boiled corn flour) and beans for lunch. Cabbage, collard greens, potatoes and rice for supper. On Sunday we have “burrito bowls” rice, beans, ground beef, CHEESE, tomatoes, onions, corn and sometimes cilantro. Wednesday night we add in sausage, Friday for lunch we have omena (🤢) and on Saturday we have beans and chapati (oily flour tortilla). We pretty much have to keep it easy when cooking for this many people.

Another challenge we have is our fridge is tiny, basically it hold our water and a few other things. There are no frozen meals here, just some frozen meat and ice cream (most of which is gross).

I wish we could do meat more often, but for a group our size it is costly (cheaper than the states) and we are on a budget. Maybe one day we can have meat 4+ days a week, but for now we are just working with what we have.
I should add we have 4 staff members in charge of cooking and cleaning. They keep the food on track and they will do whatever we ask them even if it is labor intensive like chipati or chips (fench fries). When they make chipati they use about 14kgs of flour and make over 120!

Just simply amazing.
The people. The women. The children.
Seeing such need is heartbreaking, but seeing the strength is just amazing.
The life and survival skills. It makes me speechless.
Thank you for the work you do over there.
You are such an inspiration and an admirable person (you and your husband and all others that are involved in such missions)
