Mercy Christian Academy Needs
Today we had a meeting with the Director of Education for our sub-county about the 2020 school year and the regulations for private schools. We were informed that Kenya is making a lot of changes, which are good and needed. Recently a school in Kenya collapsed and 8 children were killed and now they are putting pressure on the local officials to make sure schools in their area are safe and providing a good learning environment. Our Director of Education has shut down 11 of the approximately 50 private schools in our area so far and he is out visiting schools daily, promising to shut down more.
These changes have affected Mercy Christian Academy. Thankfully at the beginning of 2019 when we started building MCA we built permanent classrooms versus temporary ones or we would be looking at building an entirely new school! According to the new standards we need to build 3 more classrooms, multiple toilets, finish out the classes we have built, but have not yet completed and get a flag pole and meeting area set up or we will not be allowed to open on January 6th for the 2020 school year. Obviously January is coming quickly so we only have about a month and a half to raise the money, build and complete the buildings. David is in the process of setting up a fundraiser with the total amount, but I wanted to get this posted so we could start working towards completion. Right now it looks like the total cost will be right around $20,000. While that is a big number, it will allow Mercy Christian Academy to provide an education to about 150 children and provide an income for 9 teachers for the 2020 school year. It will give MCA 8 completed classrooms, a teachers office and adequate toilet facilities.
Please keep us in your prayers! We are having to run our generator daily because our power has been out for about a week and basically we are gushing money. We have been told that it should be fixed in a week, but honestly you never know. We need to complete the school or we won't be able to reopen, this will affect many children, families and our teachers. We are planning and preparing for the Eaton's to be here over the Thanksgiving break and we are going to be busy. Please pray that His will be done in all of these situations!
