Playground Update
In one month, David and one of his sons will board a plane to Kenya to start building our massive playground. Tickets are booked, land purchase is in progress, some items are on a boat on the way to Kenya, and Karson has priced pipes and tanks and is almost ready to place an order. But the fundraiser isn't complete yet.
We have come a long way on the playground fundraiser, but we are still about $6,300 short. The playground will be our kids only Christmas gift this year. In the past we have done individual gifts for each child, but we wanted to have a bigger impact with the gift this year. This playground will serve our home, school, church and community. It will be a place for our kids to learn and play, a place where we can host field trips for nearby schools and where we can continually share the true Gospel with others.
Our idea, the one we feel God has laid on our heart, is to use this space to draw in others and to consistently share the true Gospel with them. While this playground will very much benefit Mercy Ministries as a whole, it will be used as another way to share the Gospel and try to connect new disciples of Jesus to a biblical church. Sharing the true Gospel here is the best thing we can do. Yes children need to play, but more than playing they need the Gospel. They need the true Gospel, not a twisted gospel that is so widespread here, and is powerless for salvation.
In addition to the playground, the added 2 acres of land will allow us to start a permaculture project. We recently visited another children's home that is using permaculture and it is working well for them. This will allow us to hire a few more people to help manage our farm projects and start producing more of our own food. This food will also go into the monthly food boxes that we send out to 9 families each month. This will also enable us to teach these farm methods to our community, empowering them to grow much more food on their land than they are currently able to. Here are some pictures from our visit to the other children’s home highlighting what we are planning to do on some of our new land:
Can you help us finish up the last "bit" so the playground will be completed before Christmas? Will you please pray that this playground would be more than a play structure and will glorify God? Click here to go to visit our fundraiser page.
