Mercy Ministries Minute No. 2

With so many sisters Zari is always playing dress up!

We’ve had a busy couple of weeks, here's a quick recap to keep you in the loop! Please excuse my messy pictures, I'm using that app to post the blog because we are flying to Texas and the app isn't letting me move the pictures around like I need to.

Praises:

General

Our vegetable chopper is here! This has been a huge blessing to our kitchen staff. It has already saved them hours of chopping. This amazing machine serves the church, home, and school.

Jeff and I have been blessed with 2 weeks away to just rest, reset, relax, and enjoy spending time together. I can't even explain how sweet this is for us. We are celebrating our 20th (which is actually in January) but we've never actually been on a vacation just the 2 of us.

Church

It is exciting that there are 3 men in our church ready to fill the pulpit for Jeff the next 3 Sundays.

Home

We had large a donation made to cover the pretty urgent need of replacing the roof on our dining hall pavilion.

We took in 2 babies over the last week.

School

The stairs at the high school were poured and look great! Karson and the boys did a great job on them.

We've had $1,368.75 of the $30,000 need come in for the new classrooms at the high school!

Prayer Points

General

Inflation is still hitting Kenya hard. Food cost and transportation are way up compared to a year ago. The government discontinued a subsidy for fuel and corn flour which is probably better for Kenya in the long-run, but hard for the people. This has caused food to go up even more, causing crisis for some families, especially those in our small village and surrounding villages.

Jeff and I are on our 2 week break, please pray for Dottie (assistant director), Caitie, and Karson as they run the ministry during our break.

Church

Other men will be covering Sunday school, Sunday service, and the prayer meeting while Jeff is away. This is a big responsibility, please pray for them.

We are planning our 4th annual Bible conference which will be held in November. The theme this year will be "The Glory of Christ." Please pray for us and the speakers (Michael Maura and Jeff) as we all plan and prepare, and for the hearts of those who will be attending.

That the hearts of our church attendees would be softened. Jeff faithfully proclaims the Gospel each week.

Home

Baby Liam Zion...we took in a sweet, very tiny malnourished little boy, he needs to eat a lot and gain weight quickly. He is currently sick and in the hospital getting antibiotics.

True salvation of our children, they are hearing the Gospel and learning about God daily, multiple times a day.

God would bring faithful workers who love children and are eager to learn a new way of doing things.

Salvation of our staff; they attend a Bible study 5 days a week and are learning the Word of God.

School

Funding for the new classes needed at the high school. To get the 2 needed classrooms we need to raise $30,000, but we really need to also build a dining hall, kitchen, and more toilets.

A plan for the upcoming 2 month break for the school. Many of our students will lack food during this break and we would like to help offset that, but are unsure what that should look like.

For the families of our students to make education more of a priority in the home. While all the parents are thankful their child is able to go to school, sometimes they are lax about attendance.

Happenings

General

We have a visitor coming at the end of October. Our kids enjoy having visitors, especially when they have already been here and decide to come back.

Church

Jeff wrapped up a series on the "9 Marks of a Healthy Church" based on the book by the same name by Mark Dever.

Home

Babies, babies, everywhere babies. We took in 2 babies in the last week. Both babies are super sweet, but quite needy. The older girls are loving having small babies again.

School

Our school manager and our 2nd grade teacher were able to attend a Rafiki curriculum training for a week in Nairobi. Rafiki curriculum is a classical Christian curriculum and a huge blessing to our students and it is a blessing when we are able to get our teachers better educated on the curriculum because it is so different than the standard system that Kenya uses.

Last week we had a student award day. The parents came and we recognized the students who performed well on testing and in their classes overall. Jeff put together a vlog recapping this day so be sure to check it out here.

Our new vegetable chopper! Our kitchen staff LOVES this machine.

The roof is sagging on our dining hall, but we have a plan in place and materials being ordered. It should be fixed soon.

Sweet, sweet baby.

The stairs look great, the school is still a work in progress.
