God’s Mission, God’s Means
Christian missions has always depended on the gracious provision of God through the willing generosity of His people. No compulsion, no coercion, no emotional pressure; just God’s people delighting in the opportunity to be part of building God’s Kingdom.
As we come to the end of another year of Gospel labor here in western Kenya, we want to be clear about why this mission exists, how it is sustained, and why we speak somewhat openly about giving.
God Owns All Things
The starting point for all Christian giving is not need, but ownership.
“The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof.” (Psalm 24:1)
Everything we possess, whether it be time, resources, strength, opportunity, or whatever, it all belongs to God. When Christians give, we are not helping God with something the He lacks. Rather we are acknowledging His Lordship and participating in the work that He is doing.
This is why the New Testament never treats giving as a tax or fee, but as an act of worship flowing from gratitude for the grace that we have received through faith in Christ.
Giving is Worship, Not Obligation
“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7)
For this reason, we refuse to pressure, manipulate, or promise blessings in exchange for financial gifts to the ministry work here. We trust God’s plan for this ministry and we believe that true giving to Gospel ministry flows from faith.
How Missions Have Always Been Supported
From the earliest days of the church, Gospel work has been sustained through voluntary partnership. Paul often acknowledged churches and individuals who supported him as partners in the Gospel ministry.
“You Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the Gospel…no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only.” (Philippians 4:15)
This pattern continues today. Missionaries are sent by churches, sustained by believers, and entrusted to God’s care. Our Gospel labors here in western Kenya are no different.
Why This Mission Depends on Voluntary Giving
Our church, children’s home, and school here at the Mercy Ministries campus operate day by day because God provides through His people.
Voluntary giving supports:
Gospel preaching and discipleship in Mercy Baptist Church, Mercy Home, Mercy Christian Academy, as well as other villages and towns around western Kenya.
Daily care such as food, education, and staff for children in the home and school.
Teachers, textbooks, supplies, and operations for the school.
Ongoing ministry needs that cannot be met locally.
Stewardship and Accountability Matter
The Bible calls those entrusted with resources to faithfulness.
“Moreover, it is required of stewardship that they be found faithful.” (1 Corinthians 4:2)
We take this responsibility seriously. We seek to steward every gift carefully, with transparency and integrity. We know that we are accountable not only to donors, but to the LORD Himself.
Our aim is not to just raise funds, but to honor the Lord Jesus in how those funds are used.
An Invitation to Prayerful Partnership
As the year draws to a close, we want to extend a sincere invitation.
We ask you to pray:
For wisdom and faithfulness in our stewardship
For the Gospel to continue to take root and grow in our village and beyond
For the children and students entrusted to our care
For God’s provision for the year ahead
If the LORD leads you to support this work financially, we are grateful. If not, prayers are valued even more than money. We trust that God will supply what is needed according to His perfect and holy will.
“Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit.” (Philippians 4:17)
We remain thankful for all who stand with us in prayer and support. Above all, we are thankful to God who faithfully provides for His work.
