Mercy Ministries Monthly - June 2026

Mercy Ministries Monthly

Jeff Bys here from Mercy Ministries-AFM Africa. It has been way too long since I sent out a monthly newsletter, much apologies! I have been trying to consider better ways to use our main ministry blog, as we were using it to not only send out newsletters, but Stephanie and I would post things we were writing as well. But instead of “muddying the waters” with my writing on missions and theology, I decided to do that on Substack, and leave this blog for monthly updates and Stephanie’s occasional blog posts.

If you are insterested in following me on Substack, click here.
And now, here is our Mercy Ministries update for June:

SWCC Mission Trip

The end of May and into early June, we had a team from Still Water Community Church in Rowlett, TX here ministering with us. This included putting on an awesome VBS for our Mercy Home kids, pastor Kurt Horting preaching in the Sunday service, and Dr. John Schimmel teaching a course on church history to local pastors.

It was really special having Kurt here. He has pastored SWCC for 20 years now, and is the person God has used most in my life for my spiritual formation.

School athletics

Our high school girls’ basketball team had the opportunity to compete at the county level in 3 on 3. They did not advance, but it was a great experience!

Feeding program

Our feeding program at a nearby public school is still going strong. We are feeding about 350 kids M-F and have been able to help with some medical needs as well.

Fbcc mission trip

For the last 3 weeks, a team mainly from First Baptist Church Cherokee in Kansas has been here ministering with us, including helping us put on a special dinner for the widows in our church and our first ever medical clinic! We were able to help over 500 people at our 3-day clinic.

We are hoping to work with them and others on building and setting up a permanent clinic at our mission, so please be praying about that!
