Storage room updates!

posted on behalf of Stephanie Bys:

Late last night our iron sheets for the food storage room (FINALLY) arrived!

They keep the cement wet for several days while it completely dries that's why the bottom part looks so dark right now.

Such a simple structure that will add so much organization to our work here. We go through lots and lots of food, especially on school days. We serve over 500 meals a day Monday-Friday

Today they were installed and they started plastering the inside of this room! I believe tomorrow they will finish plastering the walls and then be able to move on the the final layer of flooring (it may be Saturday before this step happens).

Anyone who has ever had to do without a pantry or had a pantry that is too small for their family can definitely understand my joy over this! Old me would be "eye rolling" over how excited I am over this. I am so happy that our kitchen staff can have the items they need most close to them now. I know that their job is incredibly busy and demanding and they make it look easy. If we can make their job even a little bit easier I want to. Serving over 3,300 plates of food a week is no easy task and they do it with a smile and a great attitude.

Thank you for helping make life a little bit easier here! There are so many layers and details to this work and it can be overwhelming and defeating sometimes. Currently I'm overwhelmed at how far God has brought us. This was an empty corn field, then we had a TINY kitchen made out of iron sheets, then a big kitchen, but no storage...now we have a huge storage room in process! What a blessing!!!

I can't wait to see this place filled with shelves of food that are easily accessible for our busy kitchen staff

This wall was originally part of our security wall. On the other side of this wall are the classrooms for Pre-K and Kinder.
