The Possibility of New Land for a High School

Happy Friday! I hope your week has been as blessed as ours has. We've been blessed to spend a week with a sweet family from Hawaii and they have been such a blessing to us personally and the ministry work here. They have been doing life with us, arts and crafts with our kids, and loving on our kids all week. We have all really enjoyed our time with them.

For several months now we (leadership of Mercy Ministries) have been talking about next steps. Our primary school has reached the highest grade level and in April of 2022 our 8th grade students will need a high school to attend. Best we can tell, after lots of discussion and prayer we feel like the next step for us is to open a high school. If that sounds scary (and expensive) to you we are in the same canoe, being thrown around by the same waves. However, the other option is to send our children and other MCA students to an outside school which means we immediately lose a Christian education, a safe and loving learning environment, and so many other things that are incredibly important to us as parents. The mission statement and goals at MCA just are not found in other schools in our area.

In order to have a high school we need to purchase land. God has opened up 4 acres of land for us to purchase. This land is located at the back of our current land which is great because we need any expansion happening to be close to our home and primary school so it can be overseen adaquitly. Purchasing land here can be difficult because most of the time the land has been passed down through the family for generations and they do not want to part with it. It is also difficult because for the reasons above we have to pay a little more than the going rate.

This new property that is available to us will be a $40,000 investment for the full 4 acres. We currently have $10,000 towards the $40,000 need that was donated while we were in the states. If we want to secure this land and enter a legal agreement to purchase this land we feel like we need to raise $10,000 more quickly. Then we can continue raising the other $20,000 that will be paid off at the beginning of January. Once the land is paid in full in January we can begin building bathrooms, a classroom, and a couple of offices. We will be allowed to start the high school 1 grade level per year, much like we did at our primary school, so we don't have to have a full high school by April 2022.

Is this a large and sometimes overwhelming undertaking? Absolutely, yes. Do we feel qualified to do it? No, not at all, but really that is our whole missionary story. However, we do feel like this is what God has for Mercy Ministries and so we will continue to be obedient and move forward with this project until He closes that door or sees it through.

Will you pray with us about this land purchase, new high school, and the many students and teachers who will attend Mercy Christian Academy High School over the coming years? If you are able to help us meet this first $20,000 goal would you please pray about that? If you are able to help us meet the next $20,000 goal will you please pray about that. If you love the work God is doing here would you share it with others? Many of the prayers and support we have today are from others sharing about what God has done and is doing here.

Most of the current MCA students and staff, the Pre-K and Kinder class had already gone home for the day.

We recently posted our latest vlog on YouTube sharing how we try to keep Christ the center of the work here. In the last 2-ish minutes of the video we share about how a high school would allow us to reach more for Christ. If you'd like to watch that video you can click here to go to The Unlikeliest Missionaries channel.

If you'd like to donate directly to the land fundraiser you can click here for more details.

Thank you for your continued support here, I know there is a lot going on and we are always posting needs. As we are approaching our 5 year mark in Kenya I'm completely amazed and incredibly blessed by all God has done. He took us from nothing to everything that you see here today. Our hope and prayer is that the more vlogs we are able to post the better you can understand the work that is being done here. Also, that through these videos you would be able to better see the difference that is being made through your prayers, shares, and donations. Thank you from the bottom of my Mama heart for standing in the gap for so many here in our village. 💜
