Some Big News
Over the past month or so something big and exciting has been happening in the Bys family and we wanted to share that with you and ask for your prayers!
Meshack moved to Mercy Home in 2018 when he was about 13 years old. Before coming to Mercy Home, Meshack was living with his elderly grandmother who was blind, and he was helping care for her. Over the last 6 years we have watched Meshack go from a hard-headed boy who just wanted to follow his culture to a young man who truly wants to honor God with his life. It has been a joy and blessing to have a front row seat to Meshack’s life and what God has been doing in his life.
Recently, Meshack came to Jeff and I and shared with us about the feelings that he has for our sweet Joy. Over the last year we have watched the 2 of them grow closer so this was not a complete surprise to us. Initially we asked Meshack to finish high school (in November) before we discussed an official relationship and he agreed. As we talked with both of them over the next several days and watched the joy that Meshack was feeling in his heart shown all over his face it became clear that it did not matter if we waited until November. Meshack’s focus was already on his future, working and serving at Mercy Ministries and what was next for he and Joy.
For a multitude of reasons Jeff and I felt like it would be best for Meshack and Joy (and our home as a whole) to enter into an official courtship/relationship with the purpose being for it to prepare them for forever with each other. We do not have a timeline for how long or short this courtship phase will be. We (Jeff, Meshack, Joy, and myself) are fully trusting God to show us His way. Each of us are willing to follow His lead rather than our own ideas on how this should look.
We have had lots of great discussions with them and we are going through several marriage books together. They have committed to being open and honest during this next phase so that they may learn and grow together and eventually start their marriage off on the right foot, grounded in God’s Word and on His truths.
Will you pray with us and for us and them? Pray that the Lord’s will would be done and that He would be glorified. Will you pray that we can work through big cultural differences and challenges before their (potential) marriage? Will you pray that this would be a time of growth in all of our lives? Will you pray for next steps as they move into leadership roles in the ministry? And most importantly, that through all of this, the Lord would be glorified?
Thank you for praying for our sweet children. We dearly love Meshack and Joy and are so thankful that they want to honor God through their relationship!
