Preparing for the Upcoming Election in Kenya
Now that we are all feeling better life seems to be moving faster. We were behind on so many things, we've been playing catch-up, had several pressing needs thrown at us, and some things have "snuck up" on us.
Election time in Kenya can be very unpredictable. In preparation for next week's election (Aug 8th) we'd like to have about 500 liters of fuel on hand to run our generator. We are quite certain we will have days without power as this is the norm. We are so thankful to have such a beast of a generator, however it cost about $100 to run it for 24 hours. After our fuel shortage a couple of months ago we were told how to and were able to order a large storage tank for fuel so we have plenty of room and a safer way to store fuel now.
We also need to stock up on a few staples to make sure should anything happen that we are covered for a bit on food and toilet paper π. Of course we are still experiencing inflation on some of our staples, but I think buying a bit extra of our mains will help. We do not expect things to get bad where we actually live in the village, but in town where we get all of our food and fuel could be very different. We will purposely be staying out of town for a week or so after βoting day.
In 2017, during the last election, things were pretty mild and we are hoping and praying it is that way this year as well. However, having so many to care for now means we need to do our best to be reasonably prepared. Of course if everything is fine, none of the food or fuel will go to waste, we will definitely use it. We just want to be prepared and not stuck or stressed if chaos breaks out over the results.
All together we are hoping to raise $3,500 quickly. This will allow Karson to get fuel and oil changing supplies for the generator, and some extra food supplies to carry us through a week or so should we need that. Please pray for Kenya, the incoming (or remaining) leaders and for the citizens to love Kenya more than they "hate" the leadership.
