MERCY MINISTRIES MINUTE NO. 7

Kyle and his beautiful family!

PRAISES:

General
We are so thankful for our son Kyle, his wife Savanna, and their daughters Ava and Rylee. Kyle serves in the U.S. Navy and does a tremendous job loving and supporting his family. Savanna is an awesome homemaker. The military can be very hard on a family, and we are so proud of the way they handle it!

Church
For the 2nd Sunday in a row we had over 800 people in attendance at our worship service. We thank the Lord that more and more people in our area are hearing the Gospel and are being taught the Word.

Friday I was able to visit with the two pastors of a Reformed Baptist church in Chwele, about an hour drive from us. Chwele is a main market center which is where we go every week to purchase vegetables for the home, school, and church to supplement what we grow in our gardens. It was a great encouragement to meet with faithful brothers laboring in the Gospel ministry.

Monday I was grateful to be able to visit a small Reformed church in Nzoia (about an hour drive from us). The church was planted about a year and a half ago by one of the students of Wisdom Training Center, the Bible school that we partner with.

Home
Ian, our media tech, recently did an interview with Emmanuel, one of the first street boys we took in to our Mercy Home family. This really encouraged me to be reminded of God's grace in Ema's life.

School
We are thankful to be able to start each day at Mercy Christian Academy with a chapel service. Here is a short clip of us singing the Swahili version of "At Calvary"

PRAYER POINTS:

General
Please pray that God "would rend the heavens and come down" (Isaiah 64:1a) for we are in an area of great darkness in need of revival. Nearly every day we get reports of unspeakable deeds of darkness. So many in our area of western Kenya are lost. Pray with us for a work of the Spirit to save a great multitude of lost sinners.

Church
Please pray for the young church in Nzoia, and for the pastor, Evans Wafula. The area is dark, very few churches are preaching the light of the Gospel. The area is also very poor. There are many challenges that might cause members to fall away. They need our prayers.

Please also pray for Evans' teacher at Wisdom Training Center, pastor Joel Muli. He teaches at 3 different WTC locations and pastors a Reformed Baptist church in Sabatia, with very little support, and often supporting church members out of what little he has. He is one of the great men of the faith that most people will never hear about until heaven.

Pray for the pastors of Trinity Baptist Church in Chwele, Isaiah and Samuel, and for the Gospel ministry that is taking place there. Please also join us in praying as FARM (Fellowship of African Reformed Ministries, our small association of churches in western Kenya) has two recent graduates of the Wisdom Training Center special diploma class that will be entering their internships with a desire to plant a new church in another part of Chwele.

Home
Please pray for the several teens in our Mercy Home family that have expressed a desire to be baptized and join Mercy Baptist Church as members. They are currently attending membership classes and will undergo interviews soon with myself and my fellow elder, Leonard Juma.

School
One of our students passed away this week due to complications with sickle cell disease and epilepsy. Rael was 14 years-old and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Please join us in prayer during this time of mourning.

HAPPENINGS:

Home
We are getting excited and prepared for a group of visitors from two Colorado churches. Preparing means extra cleaning and getting the guest quarters set back up from when Karson put on the new roof. They will be arriving June 1st. One of the many things they will be helping us with is making the entrance to our mission look nicer. We will paint the walls around the gate, paint information about the church, home, and school, as well as plant some vines along the entire fence along the road.

Here is a “before” photo. I can’t wait to post an “after” photo!

Church
We are finalizing an intern program for the FARM churches that will help us as we prepare men to strengthen current churches and plant new churches.

School
We admitted two new students to Mercy Christian Academy this week. Their names are Truphena (2nd grade) and Domitilla (3rd grade). They live with their grandmother who is about 75yrs old. The mother passed away and the father disappeared. Due to the difficulty of their situation, they have not attended school for about a year. We need sponsors to commit to $25/month for each girl to help us educate them and feed them. They are not yet posted on our sponsorship page, but if you are interested, you can FILL OUT THE SPONSORSHIP FORM HERE and include the name of the child you wish to sponsor.

Sponsorship page - We have many Mercy Home kids and Mercy Christian Academy students who need monthly sponsorships. Sponsorships help us cover food, clothing, staff, and medical needs. Sponsorships also help us plan better when we have bigger needs. CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE

Athletic shoes and Amazon wish list pages - We are getting low on athletic shoes again. We have over 250 kids to keep shoes on since we provide shoes for the home and school. If you are able to donate new or used athletic shoes we can ship them over the ocean and get them on our kids’ feet. When we have to purchase shoes locally we usually have to buy croc style shoes due to cost and availability which isn't great for running and playing in. Thanks once again for taking the time to learn more about what our big God is doing in our little village! May the LORD keep you and bless you.
