Think About These Things #1

Hi everyone!

With some prodding from a good friend, I have decided to start sending out a weekly email with what I believe is helpful insight from articles, books, podcasts, videos, or quotes that I have read or listened to. My hope is that these bits of wisdom will bless you as they have me.

In Philippians 4:8, the Apostle commends us to, “. . . whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Living in a fallen world poses so many challenges to the Christian. There are so many dishonorable things vying for our attention, especially in the realm of media. But there is also a lot of honorable, pure, lovely, and commendable resources out there as well, if we just know where to find them. I desire to point out some of these resources as I come accross them. So without wasting any more time, here is the first edition of Think About These Things:

Power Clip from Sermon Audio

You should check out this 2 minute clip from Dr. Alan Cairns. As Voddie Baucham would say, “If you can’t say ‘amen’ then you gotta say ‘ouch.’”

Short Devotional Podcast

I have been enjoying this short devotional podcast by Sinclair Ferguson called Things Unseen. That also reminds me, I like listening to podcasts on the Snipd app, which uses AI to let you save “snips” of information from the podcasts you like listening to. You can check out Things Unseen and Snipd here

Recommended Resource

I cannot recommend Monergism’s website enough. It has a treasure trove of FREE solid Christian resources, including 1100+ Free Ebooks! Click here to check out the free books listed by author

Recommended Daily Email

I know email inboxes can be a big distraction, and we tend to get signed up for way too many recurring email blogs, and I am all for unsubscribing from the ones you find are unhelpful. But one that I highly recommend comes from Matthew Henry’s Method for Prayer.

Matthew Henry (1662-1714) was a Welsh minister and Bible commentator best known for his six-volume work, Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible. Charles Spurgeon said of Henry’s commentary, “Every minister ought to read it entirely and carefully through once at least.” Matthew Henry also wrote on the method of praying the Scriptures. You can sign up to receive daily emails, each including a new prayer filled with Scripture. When you sign up, you can also find a link to purchase the Ebook Matthew Henry’s Method to Prayer. Both the daily emails and the book are great resources for any Christian! Click Here to sign up

Acceptance in Christ!

“Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.” Galatians 1:3-5

I was meditating on this the other day and was so encouraged by my acceptance in Christ! If you are a believer, then it is true of you that Jesus Christ gave Himself for your sins to deliver you from the present evil age. You are accepted by God, not because you have done enough to be accepted, for this would be an impossibility. Our consciences testify to this very fact. We constantly let God down, and our good works are only filthy rags compared to our righteous and holy God. You are accepted by God because Jesus Christ is accepted by God and you are in Him by faith. Oh glorious truth! For further reflection, read Galatians 2:20, Titus 2:14, 1 Corinthians 15:3, 2 Corinthians 5:21, and Matthew 20:28.
