Ministry Newsletter for July
We were busy in July with two more groups of visitors! Having visitors give some of their time and resources to travel all the way here is a great encouragement to the Bys family, the children at Mercy Home and Mercy Christian Academy, our staff, as well as the folks at Mercy Baptist Church. We are always thankful for short-term trips to help support our mission. If you are interested in learning more about visiting us here at our mission in western Kenya, please email info@mercyministires.ngo
Our first visitors in July included Mike Mazyck (one of our Mercy Ministries - AFM Africa board members), his daughter Maddy, and their friend Gracie. Aside from spending a lot of time getting to know many of the Mercy Home family, their trip included a lot of time going house to house in our village sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ, and giving out mattresses to many in need. It is common for those living around us to pile up some bedding or clothes on the dirt floor to use as a bed at night, so Mike wanted to bless as many as he could with mattresses to sleep on. It was great to give many some worldly comfort, it was even better to offer them heavenly comfort through the Gospel. We also made a trip to our County Hospital NICU and maternity ward to give some basic needs items to the new mothers as well as give out Bible tracts.
Mike also did quite a bit of preaching while here, including at chapel service at Mercy Christian Academy and the Lord’s Day service at Mercy Baptist Church. It has really been a blessing to see God work in the life of this dear brother over the last few years and God really encouraged us through his preaching.
Sunday July 14th was a special day as we had an evening baptism service at Mercy Baptist Church where we baptized 41 believers, including several teens from our Mercy Home family! We thank the Lord for allowing us to see some fruit from our labors!
Our second group of visitors in July was a team of three from Still Water Community Church in Rowlett, TX. Pastor Patrick Murphy handled a lot of the preaching duties while here while the mother/daughter team of Laura and Genevieve Oleson loved on babies, did some therapy with Lexi and Levi, and taught many of our younger Mercy Home kids several Bible lessons.
We also did quite a bit of house to house evangelism in the village, cleaned and sprayed a home of an elderly widow that was infested with jiggers, and visited a nearby public school to share the Gospel and some gifts with over 300 students.
Thank you for taking the time to read this brief update about some of what God has been up to at our Mercy Ministries mission. Please keep us in your prayers as we seek to glorify God in all that we do here.
